Date: 2024-04-27
From 24 to 26 April 2024, the Modesto Agriculture and Development Organization (MADO) successfully carried out the distribution of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) kits to disaster-affected communities in Tuli, Moje, Logweli, and Mankara Bomas of Wonduruba Payam, Juba County.
The distribution was conducted under the project titled "Provision of Emergency WASH Services to Conflict-Affected IDPs, Returnees, and Host Communities in Wonduruba Payam", with the aim of improving access to safe water, hygiene, and sanitation for vulnerable populations impacted by armed conflict and displacement.
The WASH kits—containing essential items such as jerrycans, water purification tablets, soap, sanitary pads, and buckets—were generously donated by IOM.
A total of 1,500 households, representing approximately 9,000 individuals, benefited from the intervention. The distribution prioritized women, children, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that the most at-risk populations received life-saving hygiene support.
“Access to clean water and hygiene supplies is not only critical for health, but also for dignity and protection, especially in times of crisis,” said a MADO spokesperson. “We are grateful to IOM and the WASH Cluster partners for their generous support and collaboration.”
This initiative contributes to reducing the risk of waterborne diseases, promoting personal hygiene, and enhancing community resilience in Wonduruba Payam, an area heavily affected by displacement and instability.
MADO remains committed to working alongside humanitarian partners and community leaders to provide inclusive, timely, and needs-based emergency support to vulnerable populations across South Sudan.
